The community was shocked on Tuesday morning to hear that Fred Maxwell had dropped dead while working on his farm northwest of Byron. Mr. Maxwell has long been a sufferer from rheumatism which had affected his heart. He had gone to the field in company with a neighbor boy to work with a disk harrow. He had just finished hitching his team to the implement when the fatal seizure came. The boy succeeded in attracting the attention of Jesse Mitchell and Will Allen but nothing could be done. The Parke County coroner was called and returned a verdict of death by apoplexy. He was the son of John C. and Anne Maxwell and was born in Crawfordsville November 17, 1863. He married Miss Lula Munns, Sept 17, 1296 (sic - 1896). The wife and four daughters, Ruth, Catherine, Evangeline and Helen survive. The late Harry Maxwell, the singing evangelist was a brother. Mr. Maxwell was a teacher in early life but for several years has been living on the farm where he died. A little over a year ago his house burned, causing a heavy loss. He was a member of the Methodist Church. Funeral services were held at the home on Wednesday afternoon. Burial at Masonic Cemetery, Crawfordsville.

Fred T. Maxwell, former resident of this city for many years, a very popular teacher in Montgomery county was found dead this morning in a field near his home in Byron, Ind.
Mr. Maxwell has been in ill health for several years with heart trouble but his condition was not thought to be serious. The deceased was born in Crawfordsville, November 17, 1863, and was united in marriage to Miss Lulu Munns, September 17, 1896. He was a member of the Methodist church.
Mr. Maxwell is survived by his wife, four children, Ruth, Catherine, Evangeline, and Helen, one brother, Frank O. Maxwell; two sisters, Mrs. Ella Myers and Mrs. Samuel Shaver, and one half brother, George P. Maxwell, all of this city. Funeral arrangements will be announced later. – thanks to Kim H
